Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose

This old saying perfectly describes an essential aspect about life.  Throughout an individual’s life, he/she experiences a constant up-and-down success rate.  This is very similar to the aspect behind many games of winning and losing, as well as the ability to repeatedly participate.  As they progress through life, people tend to encounter a number of “tasks” they must complete.  The success and failure of completing these tasks is very much like losing or winning in a video game.  Neither end indefinitely, since you continue living and in games you have unlimited chances.  However, the successful completion of these tasks is a personal reflection of oneself.  That being said, your peers are constantly evaluating you through your performance of completing tasks.

It’s weird to think about because of the realization that you are constantly being judged throughout your life.  Luckily, we are all so accustomed to this phenomenon that we don’t even realize what’s happening right underneath us.
The balance between success and failure is a part of every individual’s life.  The two are polar opposites and have completely different associated feelings.  Fortunately, people have an entire lifetime to continuously strive for success.  Hard work and persistence are two characteristics successful people exhibit.  An individual must be constantly ready to take on tasks because one mistake could be disastrous.

Through this perspective of the world, life seems to be extremely stressful and irritating.  How do you view your own life?  Do you agree or disagree with the perspective above?

  1. In my own life, the perspective above is what makes things exciting. Yes, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. But what would be the fun of always winning. And, don't you have to lose in order to learn how to win? In my own life i view this perspective as the journey. You lose in order to win, and then you lose again to further and better yourself. I don't really view it as people judging me. I think if anything, people respect it.

  2. When I read this, it actually made me think about an idea for a game that I had a few years ago in which you didn't have an unlimited amount of chances, as you said, to accomplish a task. The game would have multiple possible paths and choices and you couldn't make a choice differently without finishing or restarting the game from the beginning. It would eliminate the fixed aspect of gaming where you must go here or do this and you keep trying until you succeed. As far as the real life view of this, it can be very interesting to look at other people's or even your one life and see what successes of failures brought them or you to today. Like in the game I spoke about, you can't make a choice and then redo it again, you have to live with your choices no matter what.
